Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) Program

What is the CAPA Program?

This program builds on the NSW Education Standard Authority (NESA) Dance, Drama, Visual Arts and Music syllabus content. The Program offers Year 7 students who live in our local school zone the opportunity for a combined performing arts experience. In Years 8 to 10, through elective classes, students can focus more specifically on one or two areas. CAPA Program students will have opportunities for public performance, mentoring, tutoring and access to support from Jesmond Senior Campus and the University of Newcastle. The CAPA Program includes the addition of experiences in all of the performing arts areas, and opportunities to extend talents in all of these areas.

More importantly, classwork, programming and assessment in all subject areas, takes into consideration the students’ backgrounds, skills and talents. The experience offered to CAPA Program students is holistic and inclusive.  The curriculum caters to a preferred learning style in all mandatory studies.

Students have opportunities to participate in the school concert band, choir, enrichment art workshops and excursions, and dance programs including festivals. Students at CCWC may apply for and participate in extra-curricular music groups, drama productions, dance troupe, art at lunch to enhance their skills and talent.

We are sure that the CCWC CAPA Program will further develop your child’s knowledge, skills and attitudes and enable them to reach their full artistic potential as well as fully achieving in their general education.

How are students selected for the CAPA Enrichment Program? Students who apply for the CAPA Enrichment Program will be invited to SMALL GROUP AUDITIONS where students will participate in group activities and are given the opportunity to perform a one minute piece in their area of application.
