Creative and Performing Arts

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts.

Studying the creative arts, students learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform. Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Students must study 100 hours of both music and visual arts during Years 7 to 10. They also have an opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills in other art forms through elective subjects including drama, dance, photography and visual design. Students can then select from a range of courses in Years 11 to 12.

Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) Activities

Our faculty offers a wide range of learning experiences in the Arts. Mandatory studies in Year 7 Music and Art can be followed by elective choices in Years 8, 9 and 10 that include:

• Ceramics
• Dance
• Drama
• Music
• Music guitar
• Music keyboard
• Visual art
• Digital media and photography.

We also cater for students entering High School who have a particular talent in the performing arts. Our Year 7 and 8 CAPA classes provide programs for our budding singers, dancers, musicians and actors.

Many of our students also take the opportunity to involve themselves in the vast number of extra-curricula activities offered by the faculty. Students can choose to have fun and develop skills through their involvement in:

• Performances at school assemblies and special events
• College drama workshop
• 2 Variety night/days
• Wallsend idol

• Dance festival
